Women that have had breast augmentation, cancer, or a mastectomy frequently experience a loss of color in their areola and are not aware that techniques exist to restore the color to the area.
Sometimes doctors leave behind scarring or just a "blank page." When this happens, the areola literally looks like just plain skin, and we tastefully and artistically put an areola back where it belongs. If need be, we can also simulate the appearance of a nipple if the doctor did not graft one in.
This procedure is commonly referred to as areola restoration, nipple restoration, or nipple color. At Essential Permanent Cosmetics, we work with our patients to determine if their insurance company is required to pay for most or all of the restoration. In most cases this is possible, with the exception of loss of color.
Patients are able to choose the size and color, and the restoration is a very rewarding procedure that can be very emotional.
